The Adriatic Dolphin Project (ADP) is the result of the activities of the Tethys Research Institute based in Veli Losinj, Croatia.
The main goals of the project include:
- the adoption of new research techniques and the development of a multidisciplinary
approach for the monitoring of the marine environment, aimed at the full understanding
of the biology, ecology and social structure of the bottlenose dolphin, a predator living in
a degraded environment such as the Northern Adriatic Sea
- the definition and proposal of appropriate rules for the conservation of the bottlenose
dolphin populations living in the Adriatic Sea, including the identification of marine
areas of particular interest that should be protected
- the increasing of public awareness for the protection of Adriatic dolphins and their
environment
- the creation of expertise on dolphin research and conservation among Croatian
students.
