Adriatic Dolphin Project


The Adriatic Dolphin Project (ADP) is the result of the activities of the Tethys Research Institute based in Veli Losinj, Croatia.

The main goals of the project include:

- the adoption of new research techniques and the development of a multidisciplinary approach for the monitoring of the marine environment, aimed at the full understanding of the biology, ecology and social structure of the bottlenose dolphin, a predator living in a degraded environment such as the Northern Adriatic Sea
- the definition and proposal of appropriate rules for the conservation of the bottlenose dolphin populations living in the Adriatic Sea, including the identification of marine areas of particular interest that should be protected
- the increasing of public awareness for the protection of Adriatic dolphins and their environment
- the creation of expertise on dolphin research and conservation among Croatian students.
