Adriatic Dolphin Project

Education

The Dolphin Code of Conduct

In winter 1992 the ADP, in collaboration with the Island Development Center of Mali Losinj and the City of Mali Losinj, prepared an educational leaflet (inspired by a similar leaflet prepared by the English organisation Sea Watch Foundation for Cardigan Bay) in order to instruct yachtspeople and fishermen about the proper behaviour when in the vicinity of dolphins.

The "Dolphin Code of Conduct", distributed in four languages (Croatian, English, Italian and German) by the harbour-master's offices and the tourist agencies in the island of Losinj, includes general information on the biology of bottlenose dolphins and on the dolphin community frequenting the area. The Code of Conduct also informs people about the research carried out in the Losinj area and invites seamen to collaborate to the study by notifying their sightings of dolphins to the Information Center of Mali Losinj.

Grant "Federica Crotti"

Starting from 1995, a grant dedicated to the memory of Federica Crotti was created, in order to provide financial help to Croatian students willing to study Adriatic dolphins and contribute to their conservation. Moreover, the initiative will allow one student per year to participate in the research activities carried out by the ADP. Dolphin stages

With the logistic, organizational and financial support of Europe Conservation, the ADP has embarked in a year-round educational program, centered around the bottlenose dolphin research project in Losinj. The program consists of offering to people from all nationalities the opportunity of participating for a period of ten days to all phases of the research, including data collection in the field and data analysis at the base facilities.

In 1991-95 over 150 dolphin enthusiasts participated in the Losinj stages, providing the project with highly motivated collaborators.
